What will this cost me?
SeniorMoves.org is a free service. We train and work with senior move managers and certify our vendors, like moving companies and real estate agents, to make sure they are providing services that meet our national standards. We may be able to give you a ballpark cost for your move when you get in touch with us because we have been through so many moves previously, and we can tell you what elements you may need to include in the process. Use the chat feature on our website to get in touch.
Why do you call Senior Move Managers® Senior Advocates?
A Senior Advocate has more experience working with the senior population than a traditional Senior Move Manager. They generally have held an entire career working in the senior care industry and take on the role as Senior Advocate as a second career in life so that each have senior-specific training above and beyond the requirements for move management.
Do you provide certified Senior Move Managers®?
All of our Senior Advocates either have a certification or are working toward the certification for Senior Move Manager with the NASMM.
Do you provide other downsizing services not on the website?
Yes. Not all families need the same services. We try to help people determine their general need by grouping and listing services that most families will need. In our first consultation, we will spend time understanding the exact needs of your family and mobilizing necessary support to overcome the emotional or physical barrier.
Will I have access to my Senior Advocate via the phone or online?
Yes. Senior Advocates are directly available by phone or email to the Clients and their families.
How is SeniorMoves.org different from a a moving company??
Moving later in life is different to other age groups because it always means downsizing and may involve multiple agencies, suppliers, estate agents, and vendors. It often involves family members who are acting as support, but unable because of time or distance to do the work themselves. We help you put all those pieces together, which may involve a moving company, a senior moves manager, an estate sale company, and the right real estate agent if there is the need to sell property. Additionally, the physical work involved in a move usually out-paces the physical abilities of the Client requiring them to depend on others for help.
Is there is fee for our first consultation?
No. Our Initial Consultation is scheduled for 60-90 minutes and is free of charge. We will use this time the better understand the exact needs and desired of the Client and their family.
Can my parents downsize and still live in the same house?
Yes. In fact as many as 80% of American’s report wanting to stay in their existing home as long as possible. This is why we have developed “Senior Safe Assessments” and Contractor Management services to help families improve the safety of the family home.
What type of backgrounds to Senior Move Managers have?
Senior Move Management professionals — Senior Move Managers® — have backgrounds in gerontology, social work, health care, nursing and psychology, others come to this industry from the corporate world of project management, technology, accounting or marketing. Senior Move Managers® require a profound commitment to connecting with older adults and a desire to perform meaningful work.
What is Senior Move Management?
Senior Move Management is the profession that assists older adults and their families with the emotional and physical aspects of relocation and/or “aging in place.”
